PHANTOM HILL

Eban Fowler, 19, signs up to work for the Army at Fort Phantom Hill, in the Comanche country of West Texas, goes out on the trail with Morgen, a scout, and witnesses his unnecessary, unauthorized killing of an Indian party and their capture of a halfbreed girl, Sun Hair. The anticipated vengeance raid turns into a siege of the Fort, Sun Hair is retaken (to Eban's sorrow), and finally Morgen proves that his courage is equal to his hatred.... Savage stuff-indeed, and a firm narrative.
