West Point and basketball, approached with suitable humility, make a man of Larry Warren in this sports- character uplift story by the author of T-Quarterback. Larry, gangling six-foot-fiver, overwhelmed in the face of being an awkward plebe, a country boy from Nebraska and rubbing elbows with spectacular athletes who ""did things"" at West Point, feels very small indeed. However, through plugging away at studies, working hard at corrective gym and basketball, the ugly duckling blossoms on the basketball courts and in school standings, being promoted to sergeant and winning the respect of the boys and also, Poppe, a social misfit whom Larry persuades to be humble and play fair. The basketball is good, but the bulk of the book is concerned with West Point mores.
