Summer Journey and winter sojourn in Nahanni country of the North West Territories of Canada reveal a world stil wild, bountiful and challenging to the intruder. R. M. Patterson sought adventure and gold -- he found the first and considered himself blessed. As he canoed the Nahanni River, honored with dark myths, as he trapped with his friend Gordon Matthews in Deadmen's Valley, he feasted on the beauties of the land and its produce. His story ranges from journey in storm; treating the Indians of fearfull repute, on to tea; shooting and eating well of ram, moose, berries and bannocks; humorous encounters with camp entangled moose and a sled race of note. Well written, with the feel of the Northland and the hunter's life.
