ZANBANGER

A rehash of Knudson's Zanballer (1972), only this time around the sport's basketball instead of football, and star athlete Zan Hagen's forced to go to court to win a position on the ""boy's"" varsity team. Aside from that, it's all much the same, as Zan and her genius sidekick Rinehart battle a ballet-slippered woman basketball coach who believes competition is unfeminine, a chauvinist clown of a principal, and assorted louts on the team. And there's no surprise when she leads the team to victory in the big tournament and wins the acceptance of both the Generals and Robert E. Lee High School. Back in '72, the issue made this seem fresher than it does now.
