THE UNDISCOVERABLES And Other Stories

Short stories and novelettes, a good collection, by an author whose vigor compassion and sympathies are with the weak and the hunted, the ""dark affliction of man's race"", which have made him more a critic's choice than one of the general public. The first group of stories concern the Sicilian fisherfolk and goatherds who have given silent and savage resistance to the Fascists in their midst. Incidents of terrorism and rebellion against Mori, Fascist figurehead, lead to the death of Mori's son. The second part, a novelette, is again a story of rebellion, Burnt Corn, in an Indian village. The last third is an adventure story of the legendary Dutchman's mine and a search for gold, one which breeds fear, suspicion, terror, murder. High quality sustained throughout.
