A competent, consecutive, orderly history of Hawaii, which traces primarily the main body of events, but includes also her economic, social and cultural development. From the days of the ancient feather-cloaked warriors, to her discovery by Cook and the rule of Kamehameha, the first unifier. Here, as her constitution was evolved, was also the constant struggle for recognition of her independence which began in 1840 and continues today. In the last half of the 19th century, the many changes, agricultural, the process of Americanization. And still today the duality of her status, her insistence on the statehood she deserves...An able historical survey, weighted perhaps on the positive values, but more exhaustive in coverage than other available histories.
