This is the easiest large atlas to use that I have discovered, primarily because the index is a comprehensive index, not broken down into countries, states, etc. Next the order makes sense, with foreign maps first, then America. The maps themselves have been redrawn to modern conditions; the colors are clear and bright; the type is easy to read; the combination of countries makes historical and geographical sense, indicating unit areas closely knit. While map scales vary, comparable scales are used, and different projections used for different purposes. There is an extensive section of supplementary material, tables of mountains, rivers, population; facts of geographic, economic and political interest; a History Gazeteer; a list of foreign terms; a glossary. A superb job!
