by Ray Loriga ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 18, 1997
A slight but very amusing fiction, and the basis of a forthcoming film, about a handsome young sociopath who kills a security guard, steals a car, and kidnaps a sexually precocious teenager--told (and also imagined) by the murderer's envious younger brother. Loriga, one of Spain's most successful younger writers (appearing here for the first time), puts an ingenious spin on this noirish exercise by turning the fugitive's escapade into a newsworthy adventure that makes him a media darling and elevates his befuddled family to celebrity status as well. It's all more than a bit obvious, but the novel is an entertaining ride.
