Third in a series that shows, in story and pictures, how small boys in foreign countries live. These books can be used at first reader interest level, though the type face is small for beginning readers. Good combination of accurate presentation of a way of life with adventure interest, as was true of Lokoshi, who went on a seal hunt in Alaska, and Little Fu, who made an exciting trip on a Chinese river boat. This time Ali, son of the maharaja's elephant keeper, makes a pet of one of the younger elephants, unintentionally goes hunting with him, and emerges as a person of importance. An up to date approach to the ""children of other lands technique"", in making the reader aware of common ground rather than differences, there is actually too little story pace and characterization for attention holding.
