The grubby, not so secret life of that low budget Marilyn Monroe exposed lovingly by her ten year ""babysitter, secretary, press agent, defender"" and apparently lover. His custodial care was not enough. Nee Vera Jayne Palmer, developing early, Jayne was ""simply a woman."" It would be hard to think she was an actress after her clothes-off-and-running Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? -- her only major vehicle. After that it was mostly night club appearances -- not enough to keep up with her extravagances, children, and klieg and klaxon marriages including one to Mickey Hargitay, Mr. Universe of 1956. At the end she ran down quickly -- dropping acid, popping uppers, drinking, and finally she was literally beheaded in a car crash. . . . The book -- and her life -- is the equivalent of one of those night spot swizzlesticks -- a cheap, plastic throwaway.
