STORM'S END

Constance Britton -- or that's who she's led to believe she is -- is taken from the hospital to Storm's End, the large old house which she is to very shortly inherit along with three million dollars. She remembers nothing (total forgetfulness is the best device and sometimes parlous fate of this genre) -- not her supposed husband or an everpresent secretary and why does she hear a woman screaming, somewhere in confinement. This is of course a see-through story right from the beginning but it is written and read more pleasantly than most.
