The first volume in the Library of Great Museums which appeared originally in 1951 and has been out of print is now given a new format (and price) and again offers not only a view of some of the masterworks of this collection but also, through M. Huyghe, a history and perspective of European painting and sculpture through the centuries. Some new colorplates have been substituted as replacements (not additions- there seem to be less in this new edition- 66 as against 100) for previous choices, and there are a number of additional black and white plates. Again a sure, seasonal choice.
