by Richard G.- Ed. Hubler ‧ RELEASE DATE: N/A
From 22 nations and 80 writers come over one hundred brief tales, chosen for their varied matter, interest, good humor and effectiveness. There are selections from the Chinese, Roman, Greek, the Bible, 1001 Nights, The Panchatantra, etc., etc.; the present comes all the way up to H*Y*M*A*N K*A*P*L*A*N, Kafka, Dinesen; there are excerpts from larger works (i.e. Schweik, Gil Blas, Zadig); there is poetry, together with mood pieces, farce and comedy, ghostly atmosphere and surprise endings, fairy tales and legends. There is no noticeable order in the arrangement of the inclusions; there is very short editorial comment following the title-author entry in the table of contents. A pick-up, beside type of reading when time is limited, this might have a special appeal in the brevity of its pieces.
