A second (The Silver Kingdom- 1960) subdued adventure story finds Mark visiting a cousin in that part of England known as The Fens where mention of the White Worme by Defoe engages his interest in archaeological-antiquarian research. Then, in the present, there are many projects: skating for the first time; building an ice-yacht and sailing once the Fen Freezes over; and a school play featuring St. George and his Gragon. At the close, however, he proves to be a real ""finder"" when he isolates the White Worme (one of the pre-Christian remains) which turns out to be within view of his window... All of this (and the illustrations) is quite British in character and although the interest level is for this age group, the vocabulary is more demanding. Mr. Garnett writes with care and intelligence.
