DOCTOR AND SON

That favorite locum tenens- Simon Sparrow, his wife Nikki, his son to-be-born, his old friend Grimsdyke (that ""mutation"" in the family pattern), and his testy godfather and mentor, Sir Lancelot, carry on....Grimsdyke returns from a Mediterranean cruise- a professional and social ordeal, to become the resident at a posh Mayfair hotel where he commits the bloomer of diagnosing a celebrity as pregnant; Nikki, under the tutelage of a militant medical woman, plans to ""pup"" at home; Sir Lancelot, alienated from St. Swithin's which has retired him, intimates that he will endow the offspring; Simon attends his gastric clinic where the ""dyspeptic gloom"" has its funnier aspects; and there is finally Nikki's accouchement for which her midwife doesn't show- but Sir Lancelot does... For all that this is part of a continuing saga, there's no sag- no drag- and it offers a reliably irresponsible form of entertainment.
