Terrall Butler, a reformed roughneck and now a sky pilot in the southwest, comes to Pembroke where he finds his congregation split between ranchers, farmers, and the railroad. His attempts to avoid violence fail; he is beaten up and run out of town; and he finally realizes that no words can breach the enmity he confronts and with his gun proves that peace is not only wonderful but workable. Conforms and performs suitably.
