THE GOLDEN HAWKS OF GENGHIS KHAN

Once more Rita Ritchie, author of The Year at the Horse, has chosen the period of Mongol supremacy as a background for a story of a young boy's passionate determination to vindicate his father. Even more powerful than the former book, the engrossing narrative deals with young Jalair's adventures among the Mongols in an effort to retrieve for the Moslem Shah the golden birds his father as Royal Hawker had bred and which he believes cost him, many years before, his life at the hands of the Khan. Told with poignancy and a keen feeling of the period this novel is a valid contribution both in a literary and historical sense.
