Robb white has been writing good adventure for the teens for a long time and this is one of the best, and at no point in it ""written down"". Navy PT boats were manned- and offered by boys so close to the teens that their achievements still seem fabulous. This is a holding story of a boat called Slewfoot by her crew- who were bound together by shared combat and intense loyalty to their captain- and their ship. Then the captain is killed; they got instead of the popular second officer- a new one, fresh out of officers' school, and knowing only the book of rules. At one tense moment, while he fancies himself another Capt. Bligh, mutiny in threatened. Peter Brent faces up to him in order to save the ship and the crew. And at the end, a surprise discovery unites them in loyalty once again. First cate story telling by a man who known what he to writing about. Fifteen and up.
