Adam Land, Lieutenant (j.g.), a twenty-year-old naval aviator, dies at the end of a completed mission in 1943. Leading an escape from a mine-damaged submarine, the young surf-riding pilot and three marines complete reconnaissance of a Japanese-held island and smuggle their information back to Samoa by capturing an enemy plane. The story is raw, realistically related and tells of the reeking, stinking war faced with heroism and humor by the four men, Adam, Jason, Guns and the Rebel. The author served with the Pacific fleet and ranked as a Lt. Commander. He writes with authority and skill. An earlier book, Up Periscope was made into a motion picture. this novel, too, has visual dramatic qualities which may interest the filmmakers. Report complete in these pages.
