by Robert J. Serling ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 6, 1967
Serling (Robert is not to be confused with Rod) has written nonfiction about the airways and one other non-novel and this time combines both forms in a story of what happens when the President's plane disappears off the radar screen, crashes in Arizona. The casualties are identified one by one but the President is still missing; Vice President Madigan surfaces to power in an ugly fashion; there's a Board of Inquiry, many more suppositions (was there an impostor on the plane?) and an unexpected conclusion when the President walks in after some high security summitry.... All of this is teletyped in upper case cliche; the characters are names with affiliations (press, crew, politicos, etc.) and the fuel exhaustion time runs out somewhere towards the beginning.
