Wine isn't a holy mystique--it is just a very pleasant liquid of infinite variety that adds to the pleasures of the table."" Mr. Misch's pronouncement is an adequate foretaste of the level of his primer. He describes the categories of wine, picks a bouquet of wines red, white and rose with tips on finding good ones. He advises a laissez faire with common sense approach--get to know shippers, take some stock of vintage but don't become a slave to charts, give some thought to serving (use large glasses so the bouquet can collect at the top of the glass, don't use a napkin, ask your merchant to store your case). Vintage chart and suggestions for matching foods and wines. ""Thirst comes with drinking when the wine is good"" and this will be a starter for some, enough for others.
