LORD WEARY'S CASTLE

It is true that Lowell privately published in a very limited edition a book of first poems called Land of Unlikeness, and in this first volume to reach the general public, one recognizes a strong and unusual talent, with a fine grasp of hard, clear, classical rhythms. His characteristics, still obscure, include Catholicism, erudition, a New England background, and a knowledge of, and hatred of, war. One feels that with his grasp of language, something more strong and definite may come.
