One man when asked what he thought of today's generation gap replied--""If I had one word I'd say confused,"" Mr. Hansel, a thoughtful religious leader who has worked closely with youth groups, tries to define the nature of the conflict. The problem he calls the ""Assumption Gap""--meaning that life styles have so radically altered that the young are not oriented to the motivations and basic concepts of an older generation. The real division however, is without age boundaries and is, as Mr. Hansel points out, between the ""Settled and the Searching."" Which he extends into such areas as ""pragmatic versus humanistic"" world views; Specialists versus Universalists. And he defines and assesses not only the attributes but the limitations of each. He is obviously, if cautiously, on the side of the Searching and discusses everything from the SDS to Guerrilla Theatre. Today's ""confused"" may not agree but they may be enlightened, and it's for people Like Father.
