ST. THOMAS OF CANTERBURY

The author has played the part of Thomas à Becket in T. S. Eliot's Murder in the Cathedral here and in England, and has retold the story of the man, who, through his appointment to Canterbury, is forced to forego his interest in secular things and become the uncompromising foe of his King. Voluntary exile follows the King's petty persecution and he grows in spiritual devotion, and the brief reconciliation with the King culminates in the dramatic murder. Does not claim to be a definitive work and the story of Thomas à Becket is, in itself, too exciting for anyone to render it dull. A straight, sober handling of the much told story. ""The Imprimatur of Patrick Cardinal Hayes, Archbishop of New York, has been placed on"" this book.
