A story of homesteading in Dakota, bearing perhaps too close a resemblance to Let The Hurricane Roar in general pattern and some details, but showing a distinct advance in handling. Both books have a decided emotional appeal. The young couple, high in hopes at first, battling blizzards, cyclones, heat, drought, thievery, loneliness, poverty, somehow win through to a certain strength and stability. It is a vigorous and moving story -- a slice out of the American scene. And eminently readable.
