TIMOTHY GOES TO SCHOOL

How Timothy suffers on his first days at school because he never wears what's right for the occasion and self-assured Claude, who does, delights in telling him so--and how he finally finds a friend and consequent happiness in Violet, who has been similarly miserable over the maddening talents of a girl (or rather a rabbit) named Grace. (All the animals are fat, formless, nursery-cuddly animals: Timothy, judging from his tall, a raccoon; Violet a rabbit like Grace.) Once together, the new friends have a big laugh about Grace and Claude, but it sounds from here like self-defensive, if not hollow, laughter, and dubious grounds for a friendship. Like many picture books in this genre, this offers a spot of empathy but oversells the cure.
