JOHNNY GUITAR

Second in this publisher's series of western novels (as distinguished from stereotyped westerns) this tells of Johnny Guitar, a riverboat gambler, and his love for Vienna who runs a notorious saloon and gaming house in Wyoming. To Vienna, who puts her faith in money- rather than men, Johnny deals a new deck of cards, and though he saves her from a vigilante posse- he has still to save her from herself. But the knowledge that he may be killed forces her hand- and the two make a gunless getaway for a future which is free of the past. The violence here takes on a smoother finish but retains a cleancut line of excitement.
