With these two volumes the Kipling Dollar Library is launched, good additions to the Young Moderns Library list. Too few young people are reading Kipling today, beyond the established classics, Just So Stories and The Jungle Books. I'd hate to have missed Stalky & Co., immortal story of the three schoolboy musketeers, Stalky, Beetle and McTurk. English school boys are identified with them in my mind; public school traditions, vital to understanding the British even today, are integral part of this story of boyish escapades. Fun reading -- and not too dated. Unfortunately, the jacket gives it an old time look, and the typography places it for younger readers than will give it full enjoyment...Captains Courageous needs, perhaps less introduction. Personally, I never liked it as well as Stalky, but the motion picture re-introduced it to today's readers, and it stands as an adventure story of the sea. Good jacket -- and format places it for the right age.
