ESCAPE TO THE ANDES

Entertaining enough reading, if somewhat theatrical. The coming of an uncommunicative stranger to a small town in the Andes precipitates a general feeling of tension since they cannot figure his reasons for wishing to settle there. They plot his death, and almost succeed -- and his plans for a marriage with a native girl are tragically terminated, so he returns to the artificiality of fame and London.
