I liked them, immensely. There is a real folk quality to these tales of peasants and fisher folk and of trolls and witches and gnomes. There is a distinctive flavor of the north, a vitality and sturdiness that is quite different from the more effete stories from the Latin countries. One suggests close parallels with the story of Cupid and Psyche: most of them follow fairly familiar patterns with distinct differences. The pictures are numerous and have a nice quality.
