TIBBY'S VENTURE

Family story, with an authentic feel of the days of clipper ships and the China trade, only, in this instance, Tibby's father was on the Dutch Guiana run. The year was 1870 -- the setting is Cape Ann, Massachusetts. And Tibby is a very real little girl with a genius for doing the wrong thing at the wrong time, but good intentions and a warm heart. The thread of plot is slight -- Tibby has given her father a little rocking chair to exchange for something -- and she hopes for a music box and gets it. The value of the story, however, lies not in the ""plot"" but in the feel of daily life in New England 60 odd years ago. There's a nice quality to the pictures by Phyllis Cote.
