GETTING TO KNOW AFRICA'S FRENCH COMMUNITY

At a time when world interest is centrally focused on Africa, we welcome this author's presentation of the highlights of 12 newly independent states in the French Community. The book is divided into several parts, the largest of which is a travel-log type discussion of each of the 12 republics, including language, religion, climate and any special features peculiar to a particular state. The Malagasy Republic for example, is a curious locale with unusual plants and animals. In addition, there is a section devoted to the many ways in which Africa has benefited from France. A good reference book, occasionally a bit dry, but generally readable.
