by Samuel Rosenberg ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 28, 1970
The title is a trompe l'oeil (Mr. Rosenberg does not want to see you in your not so lovable buff) for a collection of ser. . . en. . . di. . . pi. . . tous pieces by a journalist, a ""literary detective"" for the motion pictures and for pleasure, a contributor to McCall's, etc. Divagating here and there they deal with his avocation--collecting trivia and in particular paper ephemera; with watching Frankenstein and his dabbling in the sources of the original; with a conditioned genius, William James Sidis, ready for Harvard at trine but a dropout from the larger world; with Melville, with Schweitzer whom he visited--didactic, evasive, abrupt; with that pilloried pillar of salt, Lot's wife, etc. Complaisant occasional reading for others who, like Mr. Rosenberg, like to acquire miscellanea.
