Prompted by the penetrating curiosity which sparkles along every page of her delightful book, the author and her husband Malcolm, a painter, plus their two young sons, leave Southern Spain to live in Andorra-"" a suzerainty, a co-principality, a republic-and all three at once""- which lies in the Pyrenees between France and Spain. Approximately six months later, they find themselves in ibza, one of the Balearic Islands, making plans (which eventually fall through) and renovations to operate a pig farm. Finally, while Malcolm is holding a temporary job with a tourist company in Palma de Mallorca, the family receive mysterious, official orders from Madrid to ""leave Spain forever"" within 72 hours, and they return to Andorra. Miss Dean's well-written narrative, liberally enlivened with dialogue, reveals her great sensitivity to the people and situations she experiences, and the few purely factual chapters on the history of Andorra and Ibiza, are necessary and fascinating.
