Poetic self-indulgence produces an excruciatingly, fey tale of two run-away children, fairy ponies and a long-lost horse. Horses cantering along the seashore, wishes on horses, a one-room schoolhouse and a motherless brood in a barn--all the cliches coyly expressed in the historical present. Sophomoric daydreaming--soporific reading.
