TREASURE AT FLYING SPUR

This is a dismally earnest account of the summer activities of a group of children at a wooded retreat. 12 year old Nancy Ashburn is invited by her neighbors, the oodfellows, to stay at their cabin at Walden No-Pond. Under the supervision of their professorial grandfather, each of the five Goodfellow children has agreed to spend the morning hours working on an individual project. Not prepared for such thorough organization, Nancy is at a loss for what to do--she wants to write a book but has no inspiration. hen she finds the remains of a burned down house, and is told about a young boy who had been killed in the fire. This gets her off to a tearful start on a story about ""poor, rave Alex""; at the same time she discovers some cryptic clues left by him which lead her o his collection of Indian artifacts. They turn out to be valuable enough to rescue the surrounding land from the grip of a real estate dealer (already devenomized by Nancy's first aid to his rattlesnake bite), who had planned to make it into a resort. The story ine and the treasure are tarnished with age and overuse.
