A thesis novel -- the picture of the struggle of a surgeon against the bigotry and superstition of the Roman Catholic Church. The love story, between the young woman on whom Dr. McMurrough has operated, and the doctor, is secondary to the doctor's struggles for medical progress, birth control, etc. He loses his battle -- is ousted from the hospital -- and leaves for America. The setting is Dublin. The author seems to know intimately the inner workings of a hospital. The characters are sympathetically treated. May have a chance for Men In White sort of market, but has definite barriers in various directions, so watch your sales.
