by Sir Alec Rose ‧ RELEASE DATE: March 21, 1969
Sir Alec, who sailed his Lively Lady solo to Australia, arrived practically in Sir Francis Chichester's wake. Sir Francis also beat him across the Atlantic and into print. This book, his life story, reveals a placid mariner who never tires of talking about his dinner or the weather, although even on shipboard the former seems to get more extensive treatment. Since the book is slight, it appears with short pieces tacked on by nautical experts and by his wife who minds the shop ""when Alec's away."" These, along with the appendices on the Lively Lady--her parts and provisioning--add ballast, but not enough to counteract such entries as ""The trip was uneventful."" There is a good deal of technical data and the color photographs are fine.
