This is more than another journalist's story. It is a reflection of current history in the making, from the front, from the rear, and how it reacted on one commentator. He makes no attempt to do a chronological survey of the years from 1914-1937, but has selected the high spots. The breakdown of material into The World Makes War, The World Makes Peace, and The World Prepares War shows the cycle he has traced. It is a rather pessimistic book, a study of blunders and still more blunders, but it is fascinating reading, intensely human, a brilliant piece of journalism.
