MY BEST FRIEND

Better by any other name -- than Jingle-Bell Goldilocks Rosalie -- would be the fairy princess who plays fairy godmother in little Ingrid's dreams, granting her wishes to be masterful boy or beautiful girl, mother or father or teacher, until a rainy night keeps her away and Ingrid, comforted by her parents, is freed to be herself. But better still is the role-playing that parents deal with directly (most recently in Is There a Lion in the House? -- p. 1030, J-388) or alternatively The Something (p. 1137, J-449) nameless and nebulous that is more likely to turn up in a dream.
