Two pop-ups for the bookstore trade, unlikely to hit anyone between the eyes. In the first, little Scott who ""hated baths"" is appeased by his late great-grandfather's pipe--from which come bubbles that contain, in turn, ""a most peculiar frog"" (""'Croak,' burped the frog and POP! he was gone""), a most peculiar lobster ("". . . POP! the lobster was gone""), octopus ("". . . POP!. . .""), crocodile "". . . POP!. . .""), and at last a most peculiar little sailor (""Ahoy! Are you having fun with my pipe?"") who doesn't pop but fades out into Scott's mother, come to fetch Mm from the tub. In the second book the items Scott encounters in his dream of a magic castle are not most peculiar but HUGE--a HUGE peacock, a HUGE lion, a HUGE giant, a HUGE dragon--and between sightings he runs and runs and runs until a very SMALL pop-up teddy bear leads him back to his own little room. Farris' softer pictures and cuter endings are no improvement over the Random House staples, which pack more real surprises and usually give you something to wiggle as well.
