No hand-guide-book this, but wholesome investigation of how to start, of grammar, words, language, sentences, narration and description, slang, characterization, and various types of writing. He offers easily understood signposts of what to do and what not to do. Serious, basically, but the commonsense is plumpudding full of gay illustrative material. For Leacock fans -- and for a general audience interested in the topic.
