Stuart Chase has devoted his latest book to the eradication of classic misapprehensions clouding the public mind on the subject of money. Clearly and simply he describes the nature of the monetary unit, its origin and history. The public must give up the notion that a dollar is more than the numerical coefficient of exchange with its sole importance and meaning resting in its use. The gamut of Keynesian economic theory is traversed in an introductory way, then he pulls from his hat an idea for a new currency which will bring the economy to full potential. In later chapters he discusses the benefits that such an economy would reap. Nothing in the book is new, nothing uniquely stated, but it might be helpful to readers with no study of economics, behind them who want some liberal theory presented in a chatty manner.
