Report repeated from the January 1st issue when postponed for Literary Guild selection; it is the July choice.- ""The Prentisses set their backs to the world and tried to preserve the complacent unity of their own 'charmed circle'. But in a period which embraced two world wars and a depression, that was bound to fail. Myron Prentiss, whose claim to fame rested on his collection of Impressionistic paintings, a well lined pocket book, and a wife who was the backbone of the family- saw in family loyalty the answer to security. It was Clarissa, the adored daughter, who first tried to break the circle, only- on her wedding night- to rush back to its protection. Then Halley, who tells the story, tries to lead a 'double life- finding excuse after excuse for keeping his marriage in London a secret from his family in Paris. Finally, Julian seeks escape through the Communist alliance, only to exchange enslavements. It is not a wholly credible story, but Susan Ertz makes you believe it as you read it. As always her ability to involve the reader in the intimate thoughts and actions of her characters makes for good reading"".
