CALL IN THE NIGHT

The mysterious call comes from Claire's sister Gina from London to New York (""Please come... I'm in such dreadful terrible trouble..."" click...) and Claire is off to Paris and then London to search for a vanished Gina. Handsome Garth, about whom Gina had enthused in her letters, and who squires Claire about, may know more than he's telling, and Gina's former fiance, Warren, is irritatingly omnipresent as Claire dredges for clues with the two men and Garth's business partners. Inevitably the trail leads to a house with secrets -- two of which are conspicuous and dead as doornails. Claire is about to be throttled for keeps by the murderer when...It all ends properly and pleasantly, with Miss Howatch, -- who is rapidly becoming queen of the turret in this genre -- making all the right connections.
