LIPS AND DOWNS: A First Guide to Riding and Horse Care

Old hands Sam Savitt and Suzanne Wilding guide novices through their first lessons in riding and jumping, the problems of choosing a suitable horse and instructor, and the ABC's of backyard care. Unlike, say, Self's Complete Book of Horses and Ponies, this manual does not cover the fine points of advanced riding, conformation and show grooming, but it does provide extended advice on practice routines and exercises, on feeding (including pellets) and on training one's horse to avoid instilling bad habits, all of it geared to the limited budgets and small stature of the younger rider.
