THE SILVER GLOVE

Valentine Marsh, of Charnas' first YA fantasy, The Bronze King, returns in a tale of magic and supernatural forces. When Gran disappears, the authorities say she has Alzheimer's disease and has wandered off; but Val is sure Gran must be involved in something related to the family gift of magic. Then Gran sends Val a magic glove, beginning a hair-raising clash of good and evil forces. Val finds herself trying to stop a demonic scheme led by the wicked Dr. Brightner, posing as school psychologist, and to rescue her mother from Brightner's seductive powers. Forceful but gently humorous--and if the battle between good and evil is a bit clichÉd, the NYC setting, characters and circumstances are not: imagine a supernatural power play taking place in Central Park. Readers will look forward to Val's next adventure.
