SAMMY THE SEAL

Syd Hoff, whose recent book, Danny and the Dinosaur, made a very inviting bid to the youngest readers, tells in this I Can Read book, another story of what happens to an animal when he leaves his ordinary habitat and walks among men. This time the animal is a seal, and a whimsical creature he is as he turns a woman shopper's eyes green with envy of his lovely fur coat, joins the first grade class, and scores a point for the grade school volleyball team. A very funny story which rests solidly on the habits of the seal, but is transfused with the zany humor of Hoff's simple text and his gaily colored cartoon drawings.
