As part of Macmillan's ""Career"" series, Lawyer, written by a member of the profession, explains what are the actual sources of the law, what its practice is really like and what characteristics are most necessary. He describes pre-legal education, how the law is studied and the various kinds of specialization open to the young lawyer. Finally he discusses the reputation of the profession and what he considers the future of the law. He illustrates many of the points he raises with typical cases and an Appendix is provided. Straightforward, but more cursory and certainly less evaluative than Professor Millett's book reviewed above.
