Orchids to Crowell for two of the best books on fishing of this or any season. On P. 316 we reported Dan Holland's Trout Fishing (Crowell-$5.00) and in that report, summarized comparative values of various of the season's publications. This book too can be highly recommended, for the fisherman who wants to know how to catch fish- whatever the kind of fish, or the sort of lure. Again it is a how-to-do-it book, not a book of personal anecdotal material, and for that reason will appeal only to the fisherman of the family-whatever the sex. It's not a book for home reading, except out of season when reading about fishing is better than nothing. The first part has several unusual features:- a chapter of knots and how to tie them (this is incidental information in most anglers' books); a chapter on tackle work- which is upkeep, care, repair- rather than making your own; and at the end, the best glossary I've seen, called Tackle Terminology. The sections on learning to cast -- before, as he says, even applying for a license, will appeal to youngsters who can't afford a license. An excellent handbook.
